MMD 3040-N Computer-Aided Analysis.

Linear Analysis This assessment covers learning outcomes 1, 3, 5, and 7 for this module and the standard University assessment criteria for this level apply.

A triangular plate with a 35mm diameter hole and 3 fillets of R30mm is fully constrained at one end and subjected to bearing the load of P inside the hole with the coverage area of 180o as shown in Figure 1. The material properties are listed below:

Modulus of Elasticity = 220GN/m2

Poisson’s Ratio = 0.35

Yield Strength = 240MPa

The flat plat has been designed with a thickness of 15mm and the length L = 150mm. Determine the maximum allowable load P in such a way that the flat plat is within the elastic limit.

Produce a report on your work of 2000 words, which includes:

1. Coverage of theories on linear finite element analysis (25 marks)

2. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using Finite Element Method. (20

marks)

3. Explanation of the procedures on how the Finite Element Analysis is carried out

through NX. (25 marks)

4. Discuss the differences of using 2D and 3D meshes. (15 marks)

5. Explain how you acquire meaningful results and justify the result reliability. (15

marks)
