Mobile App Development Project- Instructions

Project Deliverables




Phase 1: Planning

Prepare an initial Project Plan for discussion for your proposed project. The proposal report should include at least the following:

 

      Discussion notes: Title of project and a list of group members

     Mission statement

     Target audience

     Intended market space

     Strategic analysis

     Marketing matrix

     Development timeline

     Preliminary budget


Phase 1 (extra): Analysis

You    are    required    to    submit    an analysis document, which contains the new logical model:

 

      Data and Process Modeling

  FDD

  DFD  Diagrams (Context Diagram, Diagram 0 DFD, Lower-Level Diagrams)

  Data Dictionary

  Includes the description


Phase 3: Design

Transform the initial idea & logical model into a detailed design for the final app. The design should include:

     Database design: There is no need to implement the database. Includes the description

     Screen shots of User Interface Design


Phase 4: Implementation

Transform the design into a working mobile app.


Phase 5: Final Report

You should include the corrected Phase 1 to Phase 4 deliverables in the final report. A default table of contents is:

 

       Introduction (Phase 1)

       Analysis (Phase 2)

       Design (Phase 3)

       Summary of the project

       Reference

This mobile app development constitutes:

    30% (30 marks) - Submission is in a form of a mobile app.

    20% (20 marks) - Final report of the mobile app development (week 15) – refer to the report template slides.

    10% (10 marks) – Video presentation – an informative video regarding the app.

What am I required to do in this assignment? 

This is an individual report-based assignment (30%). Every student must design a mobile application and produce a clear and consistent report to describe your market research, design, and evaluation plan. The requirements are further explained in the following Deliverable section. Note: you do not need to develop the app, so please let the technical constrains to stop you deliver an amazing design.  

 

You need to select one project from the two projects described below. 

 

Project Choice 1: A Mobile Application 

Design a mobile application of your choice. Be creative! 

 

Project Choice 2: A Mobile Game 

Design a mobile game of your choice. Be creative! 

 

The report must be submitted online ONLY on BREO by the deadline specified. Two submission attempts are allowed and ONLY the final attempt will be marked. The report file should be named in the following format: 12345678-CIS099-2 where 12345678 should be replaced with your own Student ID number.

What do I need to do to pass? (Threshold Expectations from UIF) 

  1.  Identify and explain the target user group for a chosen mobile application. 

  1.  Identify and evaluate the relevant mobile applications, methods and technologies in mobile application design and prototyping. 

  1. Create the personas and use cases for the application design. 

  1. Design the prototype of the mobile application. 

  1.  Provide a plan for the evaluation at different stages. 

 

How do I produce high quality work that merits a good grade? 

Deliverable 

Follow the layout below to address the requirement(s) for this assignment. Please make sure you read and understand the weighting and marking scheme, so that you can produce a design that will meet the grade you aim for.  

 

Develop a report covering the following structure (10 pages max) *.                    

1.App Introduction (suggested 3 pages max.) 

oProject background  and problem identification. 

oPropose your idea to solve the problem and the aim and objectives of the project 

oSecondary market research for the project including the related application review. 

 

2.App Design (suggested 6 pages max) 

oExplain who will be target users of your App and why; carry out a primary market research with your target users (Please enclose the questionnaire/interview script that you used in the Appendix, which will not be count into the page limit.) 

oBased on your primary market research data analysis results (Please enclose the primary market research data analysis result in the appendix, which will not be count into the page limit.), develop two personas and scenarios and their use cases for your App. 

oPresent your App prototype (sketches/screenshots, etc.) with annotation based on the design guidelines/principles, lessons learnt from the secondary market research and the preferences of your personas from the primary market research. 

 

3.App Evaluation Plan (suggested 1 pages max) 

oDescribe your user evaluation plan at different stages of your app design and development based on DECIDE framework (and preliminary evaluation results if there is any at this stage). The key questions to answer are: What do you want to evaluate? Which evaluation methods and techniques are you going to use? Who are you going to evaluate with? What are the success factors of your evaluation? Are there any practical or ethical issues that you need to be aware of when you carry out the user evaluation?  

 

*The subsections above are a guide not an exhaustive list. 

 

How does assignment relate to what we are doing in scheduled sessions? 

You will learn the knowledge and skills that are required in the assessment 1 from the mobile application design sessions. For example, how to do market research and critically review related mobile applications, how to define your target users, how to develop personas and use cases, how to prototyping and how to develop evaluation plans.
