u   This case study, taken from your own practice experience, should follow the above key areas. This is your opportunity to outline an issue: one that provides examination of collaborative working and therein also questions the leadership styles involved. It is essential to note that this is not reflective per se, but provides you with a mechanism to explore the title subject.

 

 

u   You will use this to focus on the theoretical elements covered within the module. This case study is only to be used as a platform to help you formulate your focus. Therefore you will need to identify the key issues.

 

 

u   This case study will form an appendix and is the only area of your assignment that does not need references; you will however need to pinpoint the areas for debate within the main body of the assignment.

u   Within the main body of the work your analysis will use literature to support either the possible negatives or positives of leadership and collaborative working.



u   You will consider the leadership styles that currently operate within the health sector and consider the options and select a leadership style whilst providing a rationale for your final selection. Of course all your decisions and conclusions must be supported with examples of evidence based practice.

 

 

Platform for formative assignment



u   The platform for your summative assignment is the identification of a practice based activity (formative submission) that you observed or where directly involved in, this should be no more than 400 words and will be used as an appendix for your summative assignment.

 

 

u   This is a case study and not reflective assignment so the activity you use will be a means of examining theory and its application to practice, both positively and of negatively. An example case study template is provided as guidance.

u   The assignment should include an outline of the circumstances surrounding the need for collaborative working. The identification of those agencies involved in the situation, with a brief summary of the outcome.

 u    The 3000 words will be used to;

u    I dentify the key areas for debate and discussion; leadership, management and collaborative activities.

u    Of the strategies identified was the action appropriate in all areas, and provide academic rationale for your reasoning.

u    Use literature AND RESEARCH to demonstrate your critical ability and why the theory supports the decisions either positively or negatively.

u    Overall you should amalgamate leadership and collaboration to inform theoretical perspectives and demonstrate understanding; there are contributors within the literature who argue that there has to be distinction between theory and its relationship to utility within the context of collaboration or leadership.

For this assignment, you will need to provide a critical evaluation of service provision for any diagnostic group, as follows.   

Critically evaluate occupational therapy service provision in any area of service. Consider issues impacting upon practice and challenges to sustaining an occupational focus. 

You are required to explore an area of personal interest and devise your own specific essay question which will enable you to do this. (FOCUS ON NEURO REHAB} 

 
 

Here is some additional guidance on the content and structure of the essay 

 
 

  • Detail in your introduction the health and occupational needs of one service user population e.g. early onset dementia and maintaining employment. Include relevant legislation, guidelines, policy, environments and emerging issues to justify the focus on this service area. (approx. 300 words).  

  • Briefly draw on any relevant theoretical and philosophical perspectives of occupational therapy that influence this service area e.g. a model of practice (approx. 200 words). 

  • Drawing on a range on literature (which includes research outcomes not dated older than 10 years old), detail and critique current service provision in this context area. This must include how the service is measured by considering how assessment tools and outcome measures relate to evidence-based practice at the level of the individual, service and profession.  (Approx 1000 words).  

  • Drawing on practice experience, analyse any challenges to improving occupational therapy service provision in this context area. Detail any opportunities for innovative practice which may address the challenges presented (Approx 300).  

  • Conclusion should succinctly cover the main points of the assignment. (200 words)
