Structural Design, Building Pathology and Services
Project Brief – Assignment 2 (40% module grade)
PDE 1720 Structural Design, Building Pathology and Services
Project Report Guidelines
A client has commissioned you to produce technical design for a concrete framed house (indicative floor plans are attached below) based on current U.K. design regulations and best practice guidelines. The house is located on the Church Farm House site. This technical report should showcase what you have learned about designing domestic houses by exploring it in detail and presenting your findings in the report.
Write a 2000‐word (maximum) technical report on the house (constructed using concrete frame with façade materials of your choice) to show the followings:
Technical contents in your report should include:
A. Project description with indication/calculation of the volume, areas and site information
B. Produce architectural drawings on a 1:100 scale from a Revit model Two(2) floors and roof plans - clearly showing orientation and scale bar, and one (1) bird-eye view perspective One (1) longitudinal-section and one (1) cross-section Four (4) elevations
C. Structural design and analysis Produce plan and section drawings to indicate the structural systems (1:100 scale) 3D perspective assembly of structural elements – created in Revit
D. Services Produce annotated layout plan(s) with services details for the house.
E. Describe the construction sequence for primary structural elements without final finishing and cladding
F. Construction detailing
This section should include written explanations and sketches (1:5 scale) of each key element of the house structure. ground waterproofing details (i.e. intersection of ground floor slab, external wall, column and foundation ; horizontal and vertical intersections of entrance door, external wall, ground floor and foundation) roofing insulation (intersection of roof structure, beam, external wall, eaves detail) wall finishing (internal and external walls)

Criteria for Grading
(note: students’ coursework will be marked anonymous)
This is an individual project – your report must contain your own work and not the work of others unless appropriately referenced. Your work will be assessed in relation to a number of criteria:
1. Provide the reader with a very clear picture of how the house would be constructed.
2. Cover page: title, university name and logo, module name & number, tutor name, date
3. Report is to be submitted to Turnitin dropbox inside Unihub
4. Line spacing 1.5 or 2 / consistent style / minimum font size 11
5. You can check for plagiarism before submission on Turn‐it‐in
6. You can add images, tables of data, supporting material
7. Assessment of report will be on Evidence of evaluation Comprehensiveness of the discussion (critical analysis) Clear structure (story sequence, cohesiveness between sections) Consistency of style Professional presentation Writing quality Relevance, quality and placement of illustrations (all numbered & referenced) Citation of references according to Harvard style (minimum four textbooks in your references list)
Submission Deadlines:
(1) Printed and bound report submission to Unihelp desk in Shepherd Library by 4:50pm on Mon 27th Apr 2020
(2) Online submission into Turn-it-in dropbox on Unihub by 11:59pm on Mon 27th Apr 2020
Naming rule for online submission files:
Part 1: 1720prj2-Report.pdf (i.e. your technical report)
Part 2: 1720prj2-Models.pdf
Step one - create a folder containing all of your simulation files , i.e. Revit, AutoCAD, etc. in your own OneDrive
Step two - share the folder by sending an email to the module leader (t.yang@mdx.ac.uk)
Step three - save your sent email (with logged time) as a pdf file, then upload the file onto Unihub
Part 3: 1720prj2-List.pdf (i.e. a list of files in your OneDrive)
